The Viaduct Goes Boom!

Click to watch the King5 video of WSDOT’s simulation of damage to Seattle’s Alaskan Way Viaduct in the event of a 7.0 earthquake. Frankly, I have to think this is exaggerated since we’ve had earthquakes without that kind of damage to the highway but I think you’ll agree that this is impressive.

I’m wondering if they are predicting such damage this time due to the extensive damage done during the last 7.0 quake to the viaduct and the adjoining seawall that supports all those waterfront buildings? Only time will tell.

Yes, I think they are saying that the damage is cumulative. However, I know they really want to push that tunnel-plan, so I maintain some skepticism.
